Top Bars in Salt Lake City

Don’t buy into all that crazy-talk about Utah being an alcohol-free zone, the Salt Lake City bar scene is brimming with places to get your drink on.

With many old favourites to choose from, plus new bars on every other corner, it pays to do a little research before you land. Lucky for you, we’ve been warming the bar stools at some of Salt Lake City’s top spots for years.

*Hics*. You’re welcome…

Salt Lake City Top Wine Spot: BTG Wine Bar

BTG Wine Bar, located in downtown SLC at 63 West 100 South, is a relaxed-yet-classy spot where wine fans can discover new tipples by the 2 ounce taste, glass, or bottle. More than just a one-trick pony, guests can also sample cocktails, beers, small bites, and the full menu from sister-establishment Caffe Molise.

Honourable Mention: Meditrina Small Plates & Wine Bar, 1394 South West Temple.

Salt Lake City Best Fancy Cocktail Spot: Bar-X

Bar-X first opened its doors in 1933, the year prohibition was repealed. In keeping with that era, Bar-X has a speakeasy vibe. The handcrafted cocktails are built using fresh juices and quality liquors. The delicious menu includes everything from the classic to the creative. Do your tastebuds a favour and make your way to 155 East 200 South.

Honourable Mention: Pallet, 237 South 400 West.

Salt Lake City Ace Whisky Spot: Whiskey Street

With a name like Whiskey Street, it’s little wonder this fine establishment delivers the best selection of bourbons, ryes, and single malts in Salt Lake City. Brunch is on offer come the weekend – we won’t judge if you take yours with a snifter of the hard stuff – while the dining menu is way fancier than your usual bar fare, with a focus on fresh produce and fine meats. Head on over to 323 South Main Street to see for yourself.

Honourable Mention: Bourbon House Salt Lake City,19 East 200 South.

Salt Lake City Brill Beer Spot: Beerhive Pub

Salt Lake City’s Beerhive is home to hundreds of beers and some pretty darn tasty pub grub. Located in the centre of SLC, at 128 South Main Street, the decor is old-world drinking joint complete with a gorgeous wood bar. The ice-lined bar top, however, is thoroughly modern.

Honourable Mention: Piper Down Pub, 1492 South State Street.

Salt Lake City Nom-Nom Dinner & Drinks Spot: Copper Common

If it’s a bar-restaurant hybrid you’re after, sit your weary bones down at Copper Common, 111 East 300 South. The cocktails are fancy, the eats are always on point, and the hipster vibe will leave you feeling down with the kids – if only for the night.

Honourable Mention: Zest Kitchen & Bar, 275 South 200 West.

Salt Lake City Big-Screen Sports Spot: Lumpy’s Downtown

Lumpy’s is a divey neighbourhood sports bar at 145 Pierpont Ave, Downtown Salt Lake City. Every game imaginable gets air time thanks to the multitude of TVs – though if you’re, say, a synchronised swimming fan you may want to request an individual booth with private goggle box. There’s beer, there’s food – what more could you ask for when your team’s on the big screen?

Honourable Mention: Legends Sports Grill, 677 South 200 West
