Insider Tips

For the intermediate-to-expert skier, the John Paul Express Quad teamed with the Mt Allen Tram will take you to the top of Allen’s Peak.

Here you’ll soak up amazing views into Ogden and beyond. It’s also the start of the 2002 SLC Olympic Men’s downhill course.

On a bluebird groomer day, experience the downhill course in all its intensity. It will drop you a thrilling 2,900 vertical feet over approximately 3km, back to the base of the John Paul Express.

On a powder day ski from the men’s start gate down to the ridgeline that the John Paul chair follows.

Drop skiers left into the trees and work the fall line avoiding the gully. This area is north facing and steep; the snow keeps well and the trees allow deep pockets to build up for memorable powder skiing and riding.

I loved skiing Snowbasin resort!

The extraordinary day lodges, wide variety of runs and the chance to ski the Olympic downhill race course equals a fabulous day on the mountain. On a beautiful clear day don’t forget to take in the extraordinary views of Ogden at the top of the Strawberry Express.

Dave Ryan- Snowbasin Review

One of the best things about this resort is when you pull up at the base you can see almost all of the mountain in front of you.

The mountain has a mix of chairs and gondolas and it’s really easy to navigate across the resort.

The facilities at Snowbasin are some of the best out of all the Utah resorts but it’s really worth just getting out on the mountain and kicking back once you are exhausted at the end of the day.

At the top of the John Paul Express lift you can access the tram taking you up to Allen Peak. You can either come straight down, or with some traversing, access a whole area on the right side of the mountain which has some good bowls and tree skiing.

While there is not much to much for beginner skiers there is always a groomed run from the top that’s easy enough to get down.

For the more advanced skier, basically off every chair/gondola there are challenging runs and from Strawberry Express if you are keen for a hike there are a few chutes to gain access to.

Even if it has not snowed for a few days and you do a bit of exploring, there should still be some powder stashes around but it’s also a fun mountain just to fly down the groomers.

Ben Callcott- Snowbasin Review

The first thought through my head when I saw the lodge at Snowbasin was, “Wow. I think I might have two lunch breaks today.”

Lunch however, and even the lodge were forgotten as I rode the first lift. I found myself surveying the downhill runs from the 2002 Winter Olympics and all the variations in terrain to be found just off the beaten track.

This is a mountain with a lot of secrets and it won’t give all of them up in one day, you will have plenty of opportunities for that forgotten lunch before you can say that you have Snowbasin in the bag.

Excellent facilities, an unequaled lift system and unbelievable terrain make Snowbasin a highlight. Don’t go to Utah without putting in a couple of days here, you won’t regret it.
