Alta Ski Resort

Deep and steep’ comes up a lot with folks waxing lyrical about the Alta Ski Resort charms.

It’s home to challenging off-piste terrain, spectacular views, and plenty of snow.

But this no-frills, skier’s-only resort – one of three remaining in the US – isn’t just for the hardcore; it also offers great beginner and intermediate terrain.

Alta ski area is not for pampering or a big apres scene. Here, it’s all about the skiing.

Alta Ski Resort consistently records the lightest density and most snow of all Utah ski resorts. Every other day is a powder day.

Alta Ski Resort has also teamed up with neighbouring Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort to give skiers access to double the terrain. Alta-Snowbird was voted Skiing magazine’s #1 resort in the US for five consecutive years.

Get in on the action at Alta Ski Resort, it wont disappoint!

Insider Tips

On a powder day at Alta ski area, if you’re an advanced-to-expert skier wanting access to the best fall-line in the Wasatch, take advantage of the short hikes from the lifts, in particular Collins and Supreme. The hikes separate the intermediate terrain from the expert, providing a new, unforgettable skiing experience.

Damien Frost- Alta Review

I have skied Alta resort a heap of times and I hope to be skiing there well into my nineties!

I love this resort because it is not upmarket, the facilities are pretty basic and I always have a damn good time skiing there.

The resort has amazing terrain and I would classify it as an advanced skiers resort. It is actually one of the only resorts I know that doesn’t acknowledge double black runs on their trail maps. This doesn’t mean beginners and intermediates can’t get around, there are enough runs to enjoy at that level also

I enjoy the skiing off both the Collins and Supreme lifts. You can get really good skiing in with a couple of short hikes and a bit of traversing. Keep doing loops going a little wider each time. Wildcat also has some steep tree skiing.

I have had really good powder days at Alta- and one of the main reasons why I keep going back. It gets big snow totals and skiing deep powder on steep terrain is one of the best feelings in the world

Goldminer’s Daughter Lodge is good for burgers at lunch and a beer at the end of the day.

Anyone visiting Utah for a holiday must ski Alta. The only limitation, Snowboarders aren’t allowed.
