Utah Beauty

The scenery is both brilliant and relentless as I make a whirlwind tour of National Parks in southern Utah, USA. With an abundance of stunning areas to visit it’s no wonder the state is home to countless al fresco movie set locations.

Canyonlands rivals the Grand Canyon. The Colorado and Green Rivers weave through the steep canyon thousands of feet below. Virtually next door is Arches National Park where nature has sculptured incredible arches out of rock and sandstone. All are accessible via Moab, an outdoor adventure Mecca famous for slick rock mountain biking.

Bryce Canyon is something out of this world as “hoodoos” spire from the sandstone canyon in all forms and shapes. Walking the canyon is achievable whatever your fitness, or take in the view from the elevated rim trail.

Monument Valley is home to the Navajo Indian. This iconic location has found its way into many western movies and is a must for sunrise photos.

Zion National Park boasts epic hikes including Angels Landing where you virtually walk along a cliff edge in sections to reach a high vantage point of the canyon. The Narrows hike has you walking within a river bed up a narrow canyon; you spend at least 80 per cent of your time wading in shallow water (or deeper) depending on the time of the year. This day trip is a must.

Salt Lake City is the capital and the gateway to Utah. Visit historical Mormon sites like Temple Square or a replica Mormon heritage village.

Contrary to popular belief Utah is not a dry state. Truth is, it boasts a lively social scene, with top breweries and distilleries, and plays host to a variety of events. Plus, if you’re a full-on foodie you’ll be spoiled for choice.

With so much to do and see in Utah, take it all in during an extended stay.
